Artificial intelligence has changed how content is produced by many website owners. Be aware that AI on its own does not create great content. It creates informative factual content conveniently fast. There is a difference however, and that difference is where most businesses get it wrong.

AI is best used as a tool, not a replacement. All the content I create contains strategy, context, and human judgement.

Below are the best and safest ways to approach content creation.

1. Start with relevance, not keywords

Before any AI tool is opened, focus on one thing: relevance.

Generating content is pointless if it does not serve a clear purpose. I always think about:

  • What the audience is actually searching for
  • The problem they need solving
  • Where they are in the buying journey

Map topics around intent, not just how many searches a keyword gets. I then use AI to support that direction, not decide it.

If the topic you have chosen is wrong, there is no amount of optimisation that will fix it.

2. Build structure, not a final piece

I find that AI is excellent at helping with:

  • Outlining your article
  • Suggesting headings
  • Highlighting gaps in what you cover

This provides a strong framework, however, the first draft is never considered “finished.”

Why? AI-generated content can often lack:

  • Depth
  • Real-world insight
  • Clear positioning

3. Refine content to increase human quality

The main issue with AI content is how predictable it can sound. Both search engines and readers are getting better at spotting this.

We actively work to adjust content so it is more ‘human’ written.

I always aim to achieve creating content that scores at least 75% human or higher. To measure this, I use Originality.ai to assess both AI detection scores and factual reliability, helping to make sure the content reads naturally and the information presented is both accurate and trustworthy. There are platforms to identify AI percentages regarding content and be assured Google check too.

To get to your final piece:

  • Rewrite sections to improve clarity and tone
  • Add your own original insights and opinions
  • Remove generic or repetitive phrasing
  • Adjust the sentence flow so your content feels natural and varied

4. Fact-check and add authority

Although AI can sound confident, it can be wrong. That is a risk you cannot ignore.

Every piece of content is reviewed to make sure:

  • The facts are accurate
  • All the claims made are supported
  • All the Information provided is up to date

Strengthen content by adding:

  • Practical examples
  • Industry knowledge
  • Clear and direct explanations

5. Manual review before publishing

Nothing goes live without a full human review. No exceptions. This is my safeguard.

During this stage, I check:

  • Tone and readability
  • Grammar and spelling (UK standards)
  • Logical flow and structure
  • Whether the content actually delivers value

If it does not meet the standard, it does not get published.

6. Optimise without overdoing it

SEO still matters, but over-optimisation is one of the fastest ways to ruin content.

I ensure:

  • Keywords are used naturally
  • Headings are structured clearly
  • Content is easy to scan and understand

The goal is not to please an algorithm. The goal is to satisfy the person reading it.

Final thoughts

AI makes content creation faster, but speed is not the goal. Making sure your content is of a higher quality is.

Relying entirely on AI will only provide you with content that gets ignored. If you combine AI with strategy, editing, and human insight, you will create something that actually performs.
